    TYPES OF CONTACT LENS MATERIALS

    Lens Material

    Features

    Soft lenses

Designed from soft, gel like plastics known as hydrogels. Extremely thin, pliable and sit smoothly over the eye.

    Silicone hydrogel lenses

Made from a material that lets oxygen pass through and reach the eye. Very comfortable, most popular type of contact lenses.

Rigid Gas permeable/ Gas Permeable lenses

Retain their shape on the eye and are rigid in nature. Correct astigmatism and other refractive errors. Smaller in diameter than soft lenses and highly oxygen permeable. People who use GP lenses find them as comfortable and as the soft lenses.

    Hybrid contact lenses

These have a central zone made from rigid gas permeable material and a peripheral zone made from hydrogel or silicone hydrogel material.

Provide comfort of silicone hydrogel or soft lenses and and crystal clear optics of the RGP or GP lenses.

    PMMA lenses

Designed from a rigid plastic material that is not oxygen permeable, making them look like GP rigid contact lens. They have now been largely replaced by the GP lenses.

Scleral Contact Lens in Delhi NCR

At CLIO Eye, we have a dedicated contact lens clinic where customised contact Lens fitting and dispencing is done. You will be assessed in the clinic to ensure you are suitable for lenses. A lens type will be selected depending on your medical need. Contact Lens fitting for keratoconus patients is a highly specialised skill and requires patience and time both from the patient and the person dispensing it.

For patients with high Cylindrical powers or irregular corneas, the lenses are often complex designs, and are therefore usually specially made, you will first be given a trial of the contact Lenses to decide for the fit. Your customized contact lenses will be issued at your second appointment. You will also receive instruction on handling and caring for your lenses at this appointment.

The Cost of RGP lenses depends upon the type of lens such as corneal RGP, corneoscleral RGP, miniscleral or scleral lens.
